2015 marks the 7th anniversary of
Hartel Dance Group in Oklahoma City, and Austin Hartel is ready to fulfill the second of his two productions to celebrate this anniversary in our great city.
Hartel Dance Group presents "Retrospective", a compilation of works by artistic Director Austin Hartel, showing the development of his choreography over the years. With a fresh group of dancers coming from Oklahoma, Brasil and Paraguay, we will have the chance to see some of the best pieces by Hartel. Also this Season will realize Austin's long time project of creating a documentary film of his dances and creative process.
In May, we were able to be a part of the Orlando International Fringe Festival, which is the oldest fringe festival in the United States, selected from a pool of over 200 national and international acts and won the Audience Choice Award for BEST DANCE COMPANY OF THE FRINGE. This was a great opportunity to produce our show "What's Love got to Do with IT" for national and international audiences, showing them what the performing arts are all about in Oklahoma City.

HDG must raise $2,000 to cover operational costs associated with the production of this 2015 Season at Oklahoma Contemporary. (Studio Rentals, living expenses for the guest artists, equipment rental and video production cost)
Austin Hartel has invited 4 dancers to be a part of this production, 2 from Brasil that attended the Seminario Internacional de Danza de Brasilia 2015 and and 2 from Paraguay that attended the Concurso Nacional de Danza, where Austin was part of the jury . These are young dancers eager to learn and with so much to offer to the creative process. The language of dance is universal, knows no barriers and the opportunity to be a part of this production and this cultural exchange is a life changing event for these dancers, as well as giving our local dancers the chance of experience a culturally diverse working environment.

Q: If you are selling tickets to the performance why do you need to raise money outside of the Box Office?
A: Ticket Sales typically cover a very small percentage of production costs for most performing arts organizations. HDG relies on contributions from private donors to be able to produce affordable performances for the public.
Q: How long does it take to create a performance like this?
A: For this season: Hartel Dance Group rehearses 8-12 hours a week for 5 weeks while learning the repertoire. Besides his job as an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Modern Dance at the University of Oklahoma, Austin Hartel also works independently with composers, designers and visual artists to integrate additional art mediums into his creations.
